One night while sitting down in a full bathtub, Archimedes realized the water displaced by his body due to buoyancy equaled the weight of his body. 'Eureka!' By using a chunk of real gold and the newly fashioned crown, Archimedes compared the amount of water displaced by both. The goldsmith had sent the king a fake crown.
